Prithivi theatre festival Day 7: Giribala, a Marathi Musical
Marathi Musical Giribala was the highlight on the seventh day of the on going Prithvi Theatre festival. Set in the 60's, Giribala is a story of woman's journey into the world of theatre.
Actor Irawati Karnik says, “She goes to the theatre and she is so mesmerized by the whole magic of theatre, that she doesn't care about her home, her family, her husband, anything.
She just sheds all that to now completely transform through this whole new world of theatre that she has explored.”
Actor Vaibhav Arekar says, “I don't think its very difficult, its challenging that is one thing definitely. The feather in that cap for this particular play is what has happened. Its a very very small story of Tagore's not a very popular one, not very highly acclaimed and Chetan has beautifully adapted this to have music dance and beautiful visual. So to make it a theatrical and a dramatic piece was a challenge. And I think when you do such things like a play within a play that is where the challenge lies.
Based on Rabindranath Tagore's short story, Maan Bhanjan, Giribala was adapted and directed by one of Satyadev Dubey's favourite playwrights, Chetan datar, who died ealier this year.
This is the 4th performance of the production without Chetan.
Giribala comes back to Prithvi this year after making a debut at the last year's festival and after over 15 stage performances.
