Malhar' 08 - Street Spirit

Malhar is the intercollegiate youth festival conducted by the students of St. Xavier's College, Bombay, one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in India for the past 29 years. It is usually held in the week around 15th August and hosts more than 60 events with a number of performing arts, literary arts and fine arts events, alongside informal audience games and many interesting exhibitions and workshops.

Malhar marks the beginning of the string of college festivals that happen throughout the year, and the numbers of students visiting Malhar rise steadily each year. It attracts major sponsors from Bindass, Yuva to MTV to Orange (now Vodafone) each year, and is famous for its celebrity judges and the high quality of events and entertainment. It is still the most remarkable example of student-organised events in Mumbai, run entirely by students who work non-stop April through to August, from organising funds and getting sponsors to ensuring that the 25000+ attendees have an enjoyable and safe experience in the campus. Malhar 2005 saw the reintroduction of the 'band event'. - From Wikipedia

‘Street Spirit’ is what defines Malhar this year and with an all accepting culture at its core, Malhar ’08 looks to set the soaked city of Mumbai ablaze! And while the rains drench the city making everybody run for cover, Puddles the Malhar mascot has begun to peek from under his umbrella overjoyed that once again the time has come for him to parade the streets of Malhar splashing the crowd with the contagious Malhar fever.

When a person thinks of Malhar the adjectives that pop into his head are vibrant, colorful and cosmopolitan. It creates a zest and zeal to prove oneself on the big stage and stand out in the crowd. On second thought these adjectives and feelings are also synonymous with any bustling street across the world. Be it Park Street in Calcutta Chandni Chowk in Delhi or even the Churchgate stretch in Mumbai there is a certain spirit that embodies these streets. They seem to have a rhythm of their own which dictates their numerous activities. These streets are indeed a small world by themselves and form a melting pot of cultures. – From http://www.malharfest.org/
